Via Alpina Gialla (Yellow Via Alpina)

Via Alpina Gialla

The Yellow Via Alpina links Italy, Austria and Germany, from Trieste to Oberstdorf in Bavaria. The second and third sections of this exciting hiking trail, 131 km, in 26 stages, cross some of the places of the Great War and the area of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites.

This is a particularly impressive route on which you will see the most famous mountains in the Dolomites often crossing the historic front line. In addition to the wonderful scenery, such as the views you can enjoy from Lake Fedaia at the foot of the Marmolada or that of Lake Baste on the Giau Pass, there are numerous historical testimonies of World War I.

The Germanic Memorial on the Pordoi Pass, the monumental cemetery dedicated to Italian fallen soldiers on Pian dei Salesei, and the Monte di Sangue Museum in Livinallongo del Col di Lana are some of the places that remind us of this tragic episode in our history.

Among the detours we recommend are the Ladin Ethnographic Museum in Pieve di Livinallongo and Andraz Castle.

The Yellow Via Alpina is part of the Via Alpina, a longer route that passes through 8 countries, but - above all - is an international collaboration project aimed at sustainable development of the Alps.
