The Little Zoldano Ring

Piccolo Anello Zoldano

Following simple paths through fairy-tale forests and pastures, you will discover the ancient villages of the Val di Zoldo, historical and artistic treasures and ancient traditions. The loop is 6 stages long and is suitable even for less fit walkers with stretches of just over 2 hours. Along the way, you can pause for a look around the different villages and get to know their most authentic and genuine side.

Piccolo Anello Zoldano

Start out from Forno di Zoldo, where the Iron and Nail Museum, dedicated to the ancient craft of the ciodarot, is worth seeing. Continue on to Pralongo and Colcerver, a charming village, now inhabited only in summer, characterised by tabià (mountain barns) and local-style dwellings. In Sottorogno and Dont, spend some time looking around the lovely old town and inside the Church of Santa Caterina.

You will then pass Foppa and Cercenà, you can only get to on foot. The walk continues to Astragal, the birthplace of sculptor Valentino Panciera Besarel, in a setting of centuries-old beech trees. As you keep going, you will come to the hamlets of Casal, Bragarezza and Fornesighe, the “hamlet that never caught fire”. In Pieve don’t forget to stop and look inside the Church of San Floriano with the extraordinary Altar for Souls in Purgatory by Andrea Brustolon, the “Michelangelo of wood”. Before you decide to stop and go back, we advise you to carry on to Zoppé di Cadore.

There you can visit the Al Poiat Ethnographic Museum, dedicated to the craft of making charcoal; the Church of Sant’Anna, which houses an altarpiece attributed to Titian Vecellio; and some works by two great local artists, Masi Simonetti and Fiorenzo Tomea.

The Little Zoldano Ring will surprise you as it is simple, yet packed with stimuli to bring you closer to the history and culture of these quaint mountain villages at the foot of the Dolomites.
