San Pellegrino Pass

San Pellegrino Pass

The San Pellegrino Pass marks the boundary between the regions of Veneto and Trentino, while linking Falcade and Moena. The effort required to address the steep climb with its average gradient of 6.3% with peaks up to 18%, will be rewarded by the beauty of the landscape in which this pass is set.

A change of programme in the Giro of 1978, which replaced the impassable Falzarego and Pordoi with the San Pellegrino, proved fatal for Francesco Moser who lost essential seconds here that cost him the victory.

Curiosities and tips

  • The Giro d’Italia has included the San Pellegrino Pass 11 times in its route, the first time was in 1963.
  • Tackled many times as an intermediary section of the route, in 2006 the San Pellegrino was also the arrival point of the stage that started out from Pordenone
