Cibiana Pass Giro d’Italia

The Cibiana Pass links the Cadore with the Val di Zoldo and has featured strongly in many cycling achievements during the Giro d’Italia.

One of the most legendary of these was the neck and neck between “the Cannibal” and Zilioli in 1970 and the passage of Johan Van der Velde in 1988 who, just a few days earlier, had risked getting frostbite during the Gavia stage.

You can tackle the climb from one of either slopes by starting out from Forno di Zoldo or from Venas di Cadore to reach the summit of the pass at 1536 metres.

Curiosities and tips

  • The pass is named after the eponymous village of Cibiana which is renowned for its murals
  • All eyes will be on this pass during the Oderzo-Val di Zoldo stage of the 2023 Giro d’Italia
