Dosoledo

Dosoledo

On the Sunday closest to 9th February, the feast of the patron saint, Apollonia, is held every year in Dosoledo. The masquerade is celebrated as an explosion of tradition, authenticity and colours on the streets of this small hamlet.

Parading in this truly overwhelming leap back in time are the traditional masks of “Lachè”, “Matazin”, “Matazera” and “Vecia”.

Dosoledo, however, is worth a visit any time of year: to discover the art treasures preserved in the church of Saints Rocco and Osvaldo, to walk along Via dei Fienili (a street with plenty of barns), and to rediscover a different way of life, where traditions, a simple lifestyle, and ties to the area are still strong.

Curiosities and tips

  • In the church of Saints Rocco and Osvaldo spend some time looking at the altar of the Madonna Addolorata (Our Lady of Sorrows) made of pear wood by Andrea Brustolon, called the “Michelangelo of wood”
  • The “matazèra” mask has been made only since 1953 as a poor counterpart of the “matazin”
