10 tips to make the most of your cycling experience

On the right track, bend after bend

In Val di Fassa, thrilling trails, breathtaking views, and bike routes for every skill level await you. Choose from flowing forest paths, high-altitude tours that make you feel on top of the world, or technical routes for seasoned cyclists. Every trail is a chance to explore nature from a fresh perspective - with the wind in your face and your heart racing. Take time to prepare: assess your fitness level and choose the route that suits you best. But to truly enjoy each ride from start to finish, caution is key.
"Caution" is a familiar word for those who live and work in the mountains. It reflects love, deep knowledge, and respect for a fragile, extraordinary, ever-changing environment.

To help you adopt the right behaviour on the trails, the "Prudenza in montagna" (Caution in the mountains) project has been launched, promoted by the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation, the Trentino Mountain Hut Managers Association, the Tridentine Mountaineering Society (S.A.T.), the Alpine Rescue Service, the Trentino Alpine Guides and the Val di Fassa Tourist Board. Ready to ride? Discover 10 simple rules to enjoy every trail responsibly.

Ride responsibly

  • Plan your tour according to your skills and the weather. Always bring a paper map: your phone might lose signal or run out of battery. A map helps you navigate, recognise trail numbers, and locate refreshment points along the way.

  • Take it slow. Enjoy the scenery and the silence.

  • Tell someone you trust - or even your host - about your route and expected return time. This simple step gives peace of mind to you and others, and it's essential in case of an emergency. It's best not to hike alone: all trails run through natural settings and come with the inherent risks of outdoor activities.

  • Adapt your riding style to the characteristics and the conditions of the ground.

Trust your experience, be prepared for the unexpected

  • Rely on bike guides.

  • Help those in distress. In case of a real emergency, call the European emergency number 112 and provide clear details: your exact location, the activity involved, the number of people affected, and their condition. Before setting off, download the "112 Where ARE U" app on your phone.

  • Wear suitable clothing and equipment. Always bring plenty of water and some snacks to stay hydrated and energised throughout your ride.

Take care of the mountains. Be respectful of hikers

  • Respect the environment around you and those who live there by taking your rubbish home with you. Everything belongs in its place.

  • Respect the trail. Avoid paths that are closed to bikes. Stay on the marked route - don't take shortcuts or leave the trail unnecessarily, as you could harm the environment or put yourself at risk. When in doubt, turn back.

  • Be careful on the cycling path and on routes with pedestrians.
  • When you come across hikers or pedestrians, give a friendly warning and slow down.
