Ski mountaineering, the other face of skiing

More than just a sport, it’s a lifestyle for lovers of nature and the quite of a snowy landscape.
Ski mountaineering let you discover the area of Val Rendena and its marvellous nature: an expanse of white, bordered by the rocky spires of the Brenta Dolomites to the east and the peaks of the Adamello-Presanella group to the west.

A unique thrill that is just a brief jaunt away from the amazing runs of the Campiglio ski area, this winter wilderness off of the beaten path brings the adventurer ever closer to the mysteries of nature and to his own intimate self.
This is the realm of the ski mountaineer, with his love of the mountains: you’ll choose among several skialp trails, at intermediate altitudes or up towards the mountain tops; along the trails, suitable signed, in the woods of the Adamello Brenta Nature Park, there is the right skill trail for each ski mountaineers, whether you are a beginner of an expert.

In the mountains, with safety!

When in the mountains, be always careful and consider the possible risks in order to face and manage them.
Even before choosing the location and the difficulty of the outing, assess your own capabilities and physical preparation.
Check the weather and avalanche forecasts; moreover, ask a mountain guide for information on snow condition and on seasonal weather patterns.

Equipment

Decide what equipment take with you: a well-prepared backpack is essential, complete with a change of clothes, sufficient food and water, map and if necessary ski wax, compass and first-aid kit.
For safety in the snow, an avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe must also be on hand.
Rope, harnesses, crampons, and an ice axe will be crucial for outings that involve glaciers or other long, arduous itineraries, always guided by the expert local mountain guides.


Skis, boots and skins

What’s the right length of skialp skis? And the most suitable boots? Which kind of skins?

The classical ski mountaineering ski is the right compromise between lightness while ascending and amusement while descending. Many have been able to get started in ski mountaineering thanks to the development of lighter, higher-performance materials that have made the sport accessible to all.

Ski mountaineering boots must wear perfectly for both correct ascent and descent.
And skins? You’ll find different materials and types: the best ones must let you slipping but also holding perfectly. For choosing what is right for you, ask for advice to the expert local mountain guides or to the professionals of the rental shops.
