Fort Larino - Lardaro
a first-stage fortFort Larino is a first-stage fort, this means it was one of the first forts to be built.
Its construction dates back to the period between 1860 and 1861 and secondly, in 1879, some modernizations have been made. This building’s designer was Oskar Meiss von Taufen.
Fort Larino possessed 9 15cm M.61 cannons, 7 9cm M75 cannons, 6 shielded rifles with shafts and 4 30cm reflectors powered by acetylene.
The complexThe complex has an area of thousand square metres and consists of a casemate battery, two earth batteries and a building for storage and barracks. On the southerner and on the eastern side, is the gunner’s hole and on the rest of the perimeter, are the gun slits.
Even though it is located at tweny kilometres from the border with the Kingdom of Italy, the three forts enjoyed a dominant position. It was the leading one of a trio of fortifications, erected between 1860 and 1862 to defend the Chiese-Valley by a possible Italian attack. In this first phase the Lardaro barrage was composed by Fort Larino, Reveglér and Danzolino.
